I do my best writing at 2am

it's quiet then, apart from the computers humming and I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't then of course it would be very quiet and I'd be sat here in front of a blank screen which of course would be very silly

You know I can't sleep if the computers aren't on ... it's so very quiet I can hear the dog snoring no wait I can hear that anyway, she was barking in her sleep before you know chasing after some dream cat I assume I had to be mean and yelled "wake up" you know because you just have to hehehe she looked up and her face was "huh what??" funny as

I've had my head it in computers the last couple of days we've got a smaller comp that was given to us "goes slow" they said well yeah course it did full of crud poor little thing is all fixed now though anyone want it ? Is ok for word processing can't play games on it though bit small for that only 700meg it will go for about $50 specially if we throw in monitor etc

We keeping the other one (maybe) IF I can get the bloomin thing going motherboard is good but finding a good HD pfft different story plug one in it don't work grrr I'll be making wind chimes out of them soon no kidding I will

We got given a pile of them I call them oysters because only some of them work they've been touched by someone who shall be nameless who don't know what he's doing but only thinks he knows.. how someone can break a brand new 160 gig HD is beyond me

Anyway it's plug one in turn comp on see if that one works, then onto the next and so forth

I've got a pile here that do work (not touched by nameless person) only largest is (don't laugh) 10gig ..shut up I know you laughing at that

Ok smartarse what can I do with lets see now a pile of HD's that are under 10gig and ram sticks that range from 14 to 114 gig ... windchimes right yep yep that's what I recon as well make them into artwork is about the only thing they are good for even though they work don't that annoy me the bigger ones the new ones don't work but the smaller older stuff still works fine typical

Just how hard is it to drill holes in sticks of ram ?? I'm going to be finding out very very soon hehehe

The more you know about computers the less you want to know

There are a few things I do and a few I don't when it comes to computering
some have a number for reference

I don't
I don't do auto updates, don't let any programme do auto updates except AVG [1]
I don't let windows save my passwords
I don't save History for more than 3 days
I don't save cookies
I don't let some programmes start when windows starts [2]
I don't install toolbars that come included with programme installs[4]
I don't use Internet Explorer[4]
I don't believe every email I see Snopes link or not
I don't blindly click links

I do
Set AVG to scan everyday and do auto updates
I clear all cookies when I close Firefox
Firefox is set to ask me about cookies from sites not just allow everything
I run three, yes three cleaner programmes Crap Cleaner, Window Washer and Powerfull Cookies
I hover over links before I click them to see where they go
Windows Firewall is ON
Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop is OFF [5]
I store files on a separate hard drive to the one Windows is on
I backup regularly onto CD

[1] No I don't do auto updates, they slow your computer down and most times want to re-start when finished I do updates when I want not when the computer says I should, who's operating this thing anyway I am TYVM
[2] Any programme that starts when Windows starts will slow your start up process so Yahoo, CD Burner, the printer and Word should NEVER start when windows starts
[3] A lot of programmes come with extra toolbars, they are not needed or used so I tick the box (or untick it) and do not install them
[4] Internet Explorer does not conform to web standards and has too many leaks, I use Firefox I can block the things that IE lets through
[5] You know how Remote Assistance works don't you? That's someone else getting into your computer if it's on anymone can get in when you aren't looking

So you might think I'm a little paranoid but I know how things work, I know about open ports, tracing cookies, crackers and hackers doesn't mean I can get into yours it means I know how to stop others getting into mine

If you don't know how to set your History or set up anything on any browser or your computer you should know if you are online and that's online on anything including your phone, you should know how to clear History and cookies at least

its all in the guts

Connect IDE to disk drive making sure cable select is pinned correctly
insert ram horizontally, remove video card for easier insertion and replace
DOS dir a:
BIOS check for master status and boot device
drop screws on floor while trying to tighten up alignment of HDD
insert dummy ROM to cover up fact that rom slot cover is broken
trip over case cover from another computer three or four times


ok you want me to type in English right , not sure if I can had my head stuck inside the computers guts for most of the morning sounds disgusting that does
well it kind of is, was a bit of dust in there
Anyway computer is fixed now Frank the computer that is, he's all back and running again using the parts from another computer yet agian.
Someone broke his face though so it looks like he has two roms (burner and CD) doesn't actually ones a dummy not plugged in because the plastic plate "hole" cover wont stay on now very annoying because that one was painted to match
It should look the same as its partner .. is a silly thing I know but we have matching cases, keyboards and mice only Frank doesn't match now he's slightly "off"
Anyway won't explain what I had to do inside Franks guts if you didn't understand what I wrote first you'll have no idea what I did
No kidding though I wish those pin selectors would come off easier have to use tweezers to get them out and I've dropped one or two inside cases before, things are so tiny and slipperly as well they should have knobs on them so you can get them off easier with your fingers and don't get me going about case wires either change cases the wires for the lights never fit on the pins on the motherboard
The ram wouldn't go in because the Video card was in the way had to take that out to get the ram in and then out it back

Ok I'll shut up I'm talking "computer lingo" again, I've been in the guts I've fixed the guts up and now we have a computer without guts because its guts are in this one, well parts of them anyway
and no I did not put a sheep in the computer LoL that would be silly

I’ve been Missy or Mistress for a long time it’s my screen name, didn’t pick it, it well kinda just became, don’t use my real name either even though some know my first name no body believes my last name anyway. I don’t use Mistress any more because of add requests from people into BDSM and we can’t have that can we

Why did I start too blog
because I love too write, get my thoughts down and then well I
forget about them till later and basically say either “you twit what you write
that for” or “where did that come from”

Do I have a theme, nope haven’t got around too photo shopping one yet … oh that theme. No I don’t have a theme I just write whatever comes too mind, looking back on my old posts I think my mind went on holidays a few times. That’s why I love challenges gives the old brain a bit of a poke wake it up a little

There’s 3 working computers here, networked, set it up myself so I can go type in the dining room if I want but most times if I want peace I just get up at 6am. One day I’ll get one of those fancy phones the ones with keyboards and then I can go sit in the fairytary’ and write

Space and just started another on Blogger just for short stories and poems, bad
poems most of them. My web page has the really old
stuff don’t look at that it’s shocking

I’m married too the computer,
no not really I live with this big cuddly bear of a man, he drops hair
everywhere eats things he’s not meant too, no hang on that’s the dog, the
man he’s good most of the time.

At the moment I have 1 dog, 3 birds (one swears we won’t go into that one) and the large man he’s a child isn’t he? No just acts like it sometimes, my actual kids live in South Australia with their dad, one of each, one is 17 in Feb the other will be 20 in Nov … oh help that means I’m older than I thought

Note: ‘fairytary’ is my daughters (3 year old) word for cemetery, the local cemetery is at the back of our place, we have great neighbors very, very quiet

When I got a quickie comment from the
360º Writers Union the other day honestly I thought I was in trouble for being a
scab (non-union labour) or hadn’t paid my dues or something, it would have
scared the pants off me had I been wearing any … behave I was in my PJ’s well it
was something like 3am what do you expect. Anyway apart from the first reaction
(fear) I felt honored .. Me a writer? Ok if you say so I mean
it’s a union and everything so it can’t be wrong

crazy idea

So anyway I had this crazy nutty idea, set myself back up in the dining room with the strange monitor that doesn't like baby computer (7.85 gig 65mg ram, its a baby) and the keyboard that you have to punch to get it to type anything (hurting my fingers this is) just so I can get some peace and quiet and well hell yeah that worked it's the only way I can get any work done at all so yeah this is good this is

The other crazy idea is Taste Buds (yeah full of crazy ideas me) I think Dana is going to be doing most of the posting she's more of a foodie than I am, I can cook don't get me wrong but I'm a chucker I chuck what ever is available in then forget what I used so nothing is ever the same, cook like my granma I do don't use recipe books not for ingredient amounts anyway basically it's yeah I'll do that but change that and do this instead

Anyway back in the computer room I am .. I am
The frankenstien machine is well working I've done something to the fonts, shouldn't have so many I spose (got over a 1000 fonts) I was sorting them out and now well most of the normal windows fonts have disapeared they are still there just not showing up no idea what I've done, went to use Word and instead of the normal fonts like comic sans and veranda all I had was times, georgia and a few wingdings and some of the "fat" fonts in the "fat" fonts folder that I've made today the rest just arent showing up lucky I didn't replace times new roman with some strange unreadable wingding or I wouldn't have a clue what I was typing I'll have to fix all my fonts up now grr

I was going to set Baby comp back up in the dining room so I can write but our 17 inch spare monitor is on loan to someone else and the 15inch is not the best monitor, it doesn't turn off for a start you have to turn off the power at the wall so again I'm stuck in here constantly interupted oh well
Have to go and work on my pesky fonts again so yeah can't write and can't do anything till I fix those or get rid of the pest.. total pain in the butt

Do you know what your most important piece of computer equipment is??

I always open Yahoo Messenger first then email (sort) then check
the group page, go back to email read em answer some then to 360
answer any emails there then go read blog posts that I commented
on (sometimes other peoples comments are amazing) and then
comment again on new posts
I logon to Yahoo this morning and I’m half way through reading
emails, well ok trying too this monitor is being stupid it will
suddenly go POOOF! And the screen is huge and the writing is
this big not just the writing but the whole thing if I tap the
desk it will go ok again making a pop sound as it does it, it
will sometimes go back normal if I tap the monitor too but I
don’t want to do that too much, only does it in the mornings
it’s almost like it doesn’t like being cold the opposite of all
the other monitors I’ve had they would act up when hot I
actually had a small portable fan pointed at the back of one of
my monitors to keep it cool

Your most important piece of computer equipment is your monitor
without it you can’t see what’s on your computer, you could have
the biggest flashest computer in the whole wide world without a monitor it’s useless

You know I hadn’t posted in what 3 days

So I suddenly realize I’ve been asked how to do a multi pic
tutorial and squeeze it in quick before group chat starts, so
yeah should have been bigger and with better pictures but KJ did
one as well with pictures and at almost the same time great
minds do think alike and I know so many have been asking how so
the more the merrier

Update: I actually uploaded the file to the 360-Forum group page
(ok Mr EE helped me with the file uploading) and it worked yay
there was much rejoicing

So ok what’s been going on lets see,
the green budgie

who resides in here (computer room) took his first flight, he was in the dining room
I am not going to let him fly in here the rooms too small for a
start, anyway he flew for the first time! Out of his cage for
the first time and WACK! Straight into the wall, summersault in
mid air turn around fly off towards the (closed) kitchen window
and WACK! Straight into the curtain and sat shivering on the
window sill ….so he can fly but he isn’t too good at landing
yet….. and he bites me when I go to put him back in the cage, I
was like listen you, you got to get out of the cage have a fly
like the blue bird does, next time you can go again but that’s
enough crashing for one day .The blue budgie flies around the
kitchen/dining all the time he likes to perch on the coffee cups
and watch what’s going on from up there

Don't worry we don't use those cups
Obviously his cage door is shut with him in it when I’m deep
frying or washing dishes a wet or deep fried birdie is not a
good thing, he probably wouldn’t mind a wash but I don’t think
he would like the deep fryer

I now have a 30 foot long network cable(30 sheesh I swear it’s
more like 100) which means that I can set up a comp in the
dining room (I know I’m gunna get kamikazed by the budgie lol)
but I will be able to concentrate without loud music and chat
from the other computer, the cable works but only from the modem
anyone have a spare hub as this comp is using the Ethernet for
its internet and when I plug the cable in the back of Deadman’s
computer nothing happens

Of course our computers run on a solar powered modem works well
in the day time but the speed is a bit slow at night…..
Yes we do have electricity and McDonalds and KFC and TV in
Australia and a lot of people use solar but we don’t actually
have a solar powered modem if you believe that you will believe anything
It took me 6 goes to post this,360 kept taking me back to an
empty entry box everytime I pressed post ...remind me next time
to clean my temp files before I post

Update: Unfortunately the blue budgie died in July last year but Colorado the green one is still swearing even though he hasn't been game to fly since. Oh and yes he IS giving the finger.
